PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT PENNS PRIMARY

We embed a physical activity culture into our curriculum

PESSPA - Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity

At Penns Primary School, we believe that high quality PE lessons motivate our children, from Reception through to Year 6, to lead happy and healthy lives. We want the children to experience a wide range of activities that help them to develop their health, fitness and mental wellbeing. Through our PE curriculum, we want to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically and mentally demanding activities. PE provides the children the opportunity to become physically and mentally confident in a way, which supports their health and their levels of fitness. Children are given the opportunities to compete in sport, at various different levels albeit  within our school setting or against other schools, furthermore it builds character and it helps them to embed good citizenship values such as fairness and respect.

Our PE Learning Journey

Please find below our learning journey which sequences PE skills from EYFS to beyond KS2. Our learning journey incorporates our characteristics of learning as well as our Penns SMART values. We believe that physical education is more than 'just the physical' it's also about incorporating skills and values which go towards supporting a well-rounded sports person.

ASSESSMENT

How do we know that our children are progressing in PE?

Each child at Penns has a PE passport that details the progression of skills across the PE curriculum. Each child is assessed during assessment week and achieved areas are easily identified. Where a child has not made expected progression, provision is made to ensure this is rectified.
